Date: 10/29/2009
Category: Weapons and Armor
Requirements: Oblivion Patch 1.2.0.214

UPDATE
===========
I replaced the texture of the wooden parts of the staves with better ones and improved the normal maps. This also somehow fixed the problem concerning reflection on the orbs, though I have no idea how. Still no transparency in first person though :(

Description
===========
Celebrate 15 years of The Elder Scrolls with purchasable replicas of the Staff of Chaos from Arena. Additional modder's resource items included (see details).

Location
========
The staves can be bought at Rindir's Staffs in the Imperial City Market District.

Details
=======
When I read that The Elder Scrolls series was celebrating its 15th anniversary, the first thing I did was... download Daggerfall! But the SECOND thing I did was try to come up with something to celebrate this milestone in Oblivion. Being relatively fresh off my first mod, I knew I wanted to model something with some lore significance to the world. I also wanted to make something that either hadn't been already made for Oblivion or at least not made very often. Having recently spent some time playing Arena, I decided to bring the Staff of Chaos back to Tamriel.

Of course, the 15th anniversary announcement was made months ago as of this writing. I actually completed the model, but my drive fizzled out near the end of this project of all times. And so the model sat, finished on my external hard drive for a few months before I finally decided to texture and release it. My original plan was to script the staff to have the same powers as it had in Arena (insta-kill, banish NPCs to Oblivion, change monsters into playable race NPCs) and scatter the broken pieces of the staff Arena style into various dungeons for players to find and put back together. However, my scripting skills are lacking to say the least and wanting to get this mod out before the end of the year, I decided to take a different route, which this submission is the result.

Players will be able to buy two Staff of Chaos replicas at Rindir's Staffs. These staves are unenchanted, so do with them what you will. One has the same color scheme as the original, while the other is my attempt to make it look a little more sinister. (You'd would think a staff by the name "Staff of Chaos" would have a more sinister appearance other than the cheery blue and gold that the original had, but maybe that's just me.)

For modders, I have also included several broken staff pieces that you can use in your own mods, should any of you want to pick up on the original concept or take it in your own directions. This mod is as much for the players as it is for the modders, so full modder's resource rules apply, though I would greatly appreciate credit for the model.

Known Issues or Bugs
====================
There are a few issues I couldn't figure out how to fix, which are listed below. If you know how I may fix any of these issues, please don't hesitate to say so! I'm still learning here!

- The orbs aren't transparent in first-person view.
- The "finger tips" on the claws are considerably shinier than the rest of the claw.

If you have any other issues, please let me know!
