The Old Republic suffers beta sign up traffic

Postby Webslug » October 1st, 2009, 8:17 am

The website for BioWare and LucasArts' Star Wars The Old Republic is feeling the strain as fans flocked to scribble in their name on the closed beta list. The site is a little unstable.

BioWare developers will be "selecting testers" from the fan community based upon a number of factors, and registrants must be over 18. The beta will involve "several phases".

"We are excited to announce that we are now collecting information for those interested in applying for the opportunity to test Star Wars: The Old Republic. Our goal is to get feedback to help us make the best game that we can," posted BioWare.

You need to sign up for a community account on the official Star Wars The Old Republic website in order to gain access to the beta application. "The testing is limited to members who are 18 years of age or older and requires the acceptance of the Game Testing Agreement included in the TOR community sign-up process."

"Game testing for Star Wars: The Old Republic will be rolled out in several phases over an extended period of time. These test phases will begin with smaller, tightly focused test groups, and later tests will expand," they added. The site is still sluggish at times.

Visit the official BioWare and LucasArts website for more information. Check out the timeline trailer below to explore some of the Star Wars The Old Republic lore.

Re: The Old Republic suffers beta sign up traffic

This really looks good so far but I do have a few concerns.

1.) 1337 man-children hogging the player-base
2.) Dropping elements of SWG to make it more WoW like. Seriously SWG is intense!
3.) Lack of RP.

It looks great, but in the end as I've found an MMO needs a good player-base for me to actually care about it. WoW's player base is a bunch of idiots to be charitable. I really don't want to deal with the e-peen stroking f*ckwits anymore. Also the sheer depth of SWG which I've been playing lately gives me pause to question. Will they keep those insanely immersive and fun gameplay mechanics, or instead toss them aside in favor of another grind-fest ie WoW to compete against WoW's monolithic monopoly in the MMO market?

I guess time will tell. Suffice to say this at the very least deserves a look see!

I msut say that i have been following the progress of this for a while now, since when other members here first told me about. Whlile I am a KOTOR fan, I also have my reservations, the same as Strange Angel has listed, and will also be keeping an eye on this

My reservations are for the most part rooted in the player-base screwing things up. However the game its self is looking great. If I could play it with a group of friends so I can enjoy RP, and teaming with them. I might get sold on this game.

Check out this gameplay video, it really is a unique MMO for sure and looks like it could be a lot of fun! Twi'lek Sith Warrior is very tempting. I'll go with a Lethan this time around as opposed to a chalk misfit. Darth Talon like and all.

I just hope to Christ the player base doesn't ruin what could be a really fun experience, as this is shaping up to be a solid game.
