Star Wars - The Force Unleashed - Ultimate Sith Edition

Postby Strange Angel » August 12th, 2009, 10:07 pm

If you missed out on the Force Unleashed last fall, a new expanded version of the game is being re-released this fall putting more focus on playing as Sith. I recently played the The Force Unleashed for the Xbox 360 having purchased it a few weeks ago for $20 used. I bought it on store credit alone at my local Gamestop. You can read my review of it here.

So anyway I pretty much got the game for free. And I have to say the game was incredibly fun as I stated in my review, however my one major, and I mean MAJOR gripe with it was that it ultimately kind of forces you to play a goodie-two-shoes Jedi by mid-game. My favorite missions were the earlier missions when you were truly a Sith assassin hunting Jedi. This new expanded game seems like it will cater to the major complaints I had in my review and allow you to once again re-assume the role of a Sith assassin, with targets such as Obi-wan Kenobi, Boba Fett, and even Luke Skywalker himself!

The Sith Edition will be released this Fall for the X-box 360 and PS3. DLC will be offered for owners of the original game for both consoles as well. However, and this is a rip-off for anyone who payed full price for The Force Unleashed when it first came out. The DLC will only include a Tatooine mission. The target for the DLC whether it's Boba or Obi-Wan is unknown to me at this time. The DLC will not however include the Hoth mission to assassinate Luke Skywalker. This in essence forces users who bought the original at full price to go out and buy The Sith Edition just for this content, which in my opinion shows no class on behalf of Lucas Arts.

Now with that out of the way here's the biggest news about The Sith Edition.

It has been confirmed that it will be released on the PC shortly after it's released on the consoles!

That's right this game is finally coming to the PC where it belongs! Not only that, the PC version will include all current DLC available for the orginal game, as well as the Hoth Level, and its rumored to even have some extra content. So PC users who missed out on the Force Unleashed the first time around will eventually get it with everything it has to offer.

On top of that as we all know here on "Mods" Reloaded, PC games can be modded. This means along with the PC version we can without a doubt expect custom skins, meshes, and more than likely a lightsaber mod that allows you to slice and dice your enemies as opposed to whacking them around with it as though it's nothing more than a glowing rave club type of weapon! If you played Jedi Academy, remember the mod that let you slice your enemies apart with your lightsaber as it should be.

Who knows what sort of awesome mods will be made for this game?! But for me I would love nothing more to play as Darth Talon the only known Female Twi'lek Sith Lord. First off I LOVE female Twi'lek's, secondly I love Sith! So it's a match made in heaven for me if I can play her, slice, dice, force grab, force smash, force push, force repel, force lightening, force lightening grenade (basically zapping enemies you grab and throwing them turning the poor saps into living bombs when they smash into things upon impact one of my favorite sadistic force applications), lightening shield, saber throw and so forth. Basically killing my enemies in very fun and creative ways with all the crazy over the top force powers the vanilla game alone has to to offer whilst playing a Twi'lek Sith Lord. Dear God I can't wait for this game on the PC! O_o

There is no confirmed specific date for the release of the console versions, it's just stated to be set to be released this fall. As for the PC version, the wait regrettably will be longer. I talked to my Gamestop hook up about it and he said while it's confirmed it will indeed be released for PC, no one has any idea when it will come out on the PC. So we may be in for a wait for the PC version of this game. I'm guessing likely in December or at the latest early next year. However having played the original game, and seeing the trailer for The Sith Edition, not to mention the inevitable mods. The wait for the PC version will be well worth it! Especially for any Starwars PC gamer fans on this board. Like Sluggy, and obviously Usernamesux since his avatar is a picture of a Sith Lord from one of the KOTOR games if memory serves me correctly. Trust me guys you're going to LOVE this game!

In a nutshell,

YAY SITH!!!
YAY PC VERSION!!!
YAY INEVITABLE LIGHTSABER SLICE AND DICE MOD!!!
YAY INEVITABLE DARTH TALON MOD!!!

*ahem* Well there better be a Darth Talon mod, or I might have to point a gun to a modders head and MAKE THEM MAKE THE MOD! *twitches scarily*

Considering I had so much fun with the original Xbox 360 version of this game. The PC port with the new Sith content + mods is no doubt going to up my score of the original in my review of 8.5 to at the very least a 9.0/10 for me! Perhaps even a 9.5/10! Who knows? It depends on the mods. A 10/10 for me is hard to come by. But modded Oblivion has 10/10 for example. So the more mods the merrier.

By the way here's a picture of Darth Talon. I so want to play this game as her! Someone better make a mod for her! O_O

Re: Star Wars - The Force Unleashed - Ultimate Sith Edition

Okay since I'm in a Star Wars-y frame of mind, and have been since I played Force Unleashed on the 360. I'm even playing Star Wars Galaxies now, which KILLS WOW in terms of fun! Though I'm still getting used to a lot of little things. I've decided since this is Mods Reloaded why not make a Ultimate Sith Edition PC Port Mod Wishlist! Rather a request post for future mods of this game to my fellow board-mates. Since Meshing, and Texturing are not my strong suits.

Yes, yes it's premature considering the game may not even be released until next year for the PC. But hey it allows everyone to plan in advance. For me I already know someone is going to make a Saber Slice and Dice mod. It's kind of a given... So that doesn't worry me. However a big gripe I had with the Force Unleashed was it's lack of costumes. It had some cool outfits for The Apprentice like The Sith Robes, and The Sith Stalker outfit, which The Apprentice is actually wearing in that video. You get it when you beat the game with the Darkside Ending. Anyhoo... Costumes allowed you to play as other characters other than The Apprentice.

For Example you could play as Palpatine, or Rahmn Kota. NPC's from the game. But oddly enough those two are really the only NPC's that come to mind as being worth playing... Well not really Palpatine is an old fart, and Kota is lame. There were some DCL costume packs that let you play as Luke, Obi Wan (Young and Old), Mace, Anakin, Darth Sion, Darth Maul, and a few others. But still even the costume packs were really lacking.

Now most of the costumes consist of about a million different versions of Stormtrooper, which is just dumb! My request is to overwrite a couple of those and put in some worth while characters that should have had costumes. Here's some off the top of my head,

#1 Darth Talon (Obviously, she's my current Avatar and all so ya think?)
#2 Aayla Secura
#3 Darth Vader (YES CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!? HE'S NOT PLAYABLE! YOU EVEN PLAY HIM IN THE INTRO MISSION! They didn't make a costume for Vader though, it's like WHAT?!)
#4 Shaak'Ti (Again she's already in the game just like Vader. She's a boss on Felucia the model is there, so why can't you play as her? Aside from Aayla she's like my second fave Jedi! GRR!)
#5 Darth Revan
#6 Kyle Katarn

I would say Yoda, but I don't think the little green fellow is doable since all costumes take the default stance of The Apprentice. Yoda would look weird carrying a Lightsaber like triple his size, holding it back handed like that. o_O Then again you never know what modders can come up with? That's all off the top of my head for now.

Just doing it for fun. ^_^ If anyone else wants to add suggestions for Playable NPC'S via costumes with mods. Please do, there's more than enough Stormtrooper costumes to cover many of the unused characters. Those Stormtrooper costumes that are just plain useless, I mean would you rather play as an Elite Storm Trooper, or Darth Vader? Seriously! I mean who want's to play as a Stormtrooper of all things?! o_O

Thanks for the recommendation Strange Angel, I will get this.

You can see from my avatar who I would like to play as.

Why is it the dark side are always cooler? Is it because Luke Skywalker was such a wuss? Or the dark side and sith lord sounds better than light sade and jedi master? Even robots that have dark side owners are better than ones with light side owners, C3PO vs. HK47 anyone? Or maybe this is just the general way how good vs evil in the media (good = boring, evil = cool). Well thats my rant.

I must say though, I dont like being forced to be good. A RPG should give you the true option of being good or evil, forced to choose one way breaks the experiance when it happens. However, weighing this up with the rest, I will get this. Im a Star Wars fan.

Heh Jaba the Hut mob would be cool.

P.S. Which planet was the cantina "The Drunk Side" on? Do you know?

Glad you added to the post my friend. And you do bring up a good point. Why are Sith cooler than Jedi? Y'know I'm not sure what the vote is on that among rabid Star Wars fans. But yeah for me I prefer Sith. It's not a matter of good and evil though. If anything I guess I prefer Sith because I mean, while they are total A-holes at least they're honest. The Jedi on the other hand just kinda rub me the wrong way. They're too self-righteous to the point it's sickening, and I don't like the dogma of their whole code.

If anything I guess what bugs me about the Starwars universe is that it is so BLACK and WHITE! Where's the gray areas? Why does someone who studies the Darkside HAVE to be evil? Why does someone who studies the Lightside have to be a pious self righteous smackable preachy <expletive>. The lines are way too divided, which is just unrealistic in regards to human nature. There is no gray area in Lucas' universe. It's just Good and Bad, which isn't true when it comes to a great many things.

So I guess if anything I prefer Sith because they are at the very least honest about who they are, which is power hungry, conniving, bastards. To me Jedi are basically hypocrites, and could be interpreted as Sith in denial. I digress. When you get the stink of George Lucas off some Starwars stories they can be very interesting. My Big Sis was a huge Star Wars fan girl, going as far as to read comics and novels from the Extended Universe. She was the one who got me into games like KOTOR and the Jedi Outcast series. I really found those stories in the games a lot more dynamic in nature, blurring the lines ever so subtly while maintaining certain key elements of the Star Wars universe. Like in KOTOR Darth Revan, was really an interesting case study. As was Kyle Katarn in Jedi Outcast. They didn't really play by the proverbial rules, grant you in Revan's case that was much impart to amnesia. :Ton:

She even told me about I think it was a novel she read where Luke actually turned to The Darkside for a while but came back. He was no longer of the Light or Dark, but somewhere in between, and reformed the new Jedi Order according to the knowledge he had garnered in his spiritual journey, and new understanding of both sides of the force. That sounded kind of interesting. I used to rag on how lame Luke was, and it was Big Sis that said to me, "yeah he's lame in the movies but he gets really cool in the extended universe."

So yeah I guess that's why I prefer Sith because I don't like the whole light and dark to the extreme dynamic and if either of the two sides were to blur the lines it would likely be a Sith considering they aren't so wrapped up in dogma. In life you find most things are actually gray. But if you're stuck with one or the other might as go with the less preachy side. *shrugs* Plus being evil can be a lot of fun in video games. Especially in a game like this! Also Red Lightsabers are cool.

Re: Star Wars - The Force Unleashed - Ultimate Sith Edition

Heh red light sabres are the best!

A bit off topic here, but when I was young and had just watched Star Wars, I wanted a light sabre (red, of course!). But being young, I got confused. Instead of asking mum for a 'light sabre', I would ask for a 'life saver', (which in Australia is a type of lollie thats O shaped, comes in many flavours, Musk is my favourite).

As a consequence I got feed a lot of lollies at the shops, until I showed mum what I wanted lol! That light sabre was good, till I broke it sword fighting my brother :sob: I bet Darth Vader never had his light sabre snap when he fought his brother.

Anyway, back on topic. Shakespeare did one great thing for entertainment, he made his characters not black and white, but gave them depths. They had flaws, were mad, excentric, corrupt, selfish etc. They were not just one thing, but had many layers. This is all but non existant in the Star Wars universe.

Yes I know that Jedi's/Sith are supposed to suppress their emotions, but doesn.t this equal boring and is a cheap way out for George Lucas so that he doesn't have to flesh out characters? But yes, the Sith at least have more character and are not as hypocritical or stuck up as the proverbial stick is up C3-PO's backside, as compared to jedi's.

Sure, in KOTOR there is one jedi on the Wookie home world who is grey, but that equals apathetic in this case. Luke Skywalker struggles with the dark side, but will always be thought of as a whinny school at worst and boring at best. Although, Han Solo did have character... but he was a smuggler and not a boring force user :Ton:

I guess Darth Vader also has a struggle with his conscience. But why is it when Darth Vader does one good act when he dies, he goes to the light side? Sure he saves one life, but how many has he destroyed?

Yes, Revan I have found was interesting. A great story that too, one of the best infact. Quite unique, I did not see it coming at all.

Apart from what has been mentioned, I must also say that I prefer Sith as they had better fashion sense, just look at my Darth Nihilus avatar. The jedi are just jealous.

Also looking forward to Tales of the Old Republic! Its KOTOR online!!!! :bouncy:
