Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Will I be able to play against players who do not have the 1.1 patch?

No, you will only be able to play against players who have the patch. In Gamespy, if a game has a white name, then the game is the same version as yours. If the game has a yellow name, then this version of the game is different (either patched or modded) version of the game. If the game has a red name, then that game has already launched.

2. What does the "Selection Effect Opacity" slider do?

The "Selection Effect Opacity" slider will change the transparency of the circle around your selected ship. Moving the slider to the right will make the circle darker, while moving the slider to the left will make the circle lighter to the point of being unperceivable.

3. What does the "Weapon Strength" slider in the advanced multiplayer options do?

The weapon strength slider will control the amount of damage that your ship does. As you move the slider to the left, your ship will grow stronger and cause more damage. Moving the slider to the right will weaken the power of your ship.

4. What does the "Mothership Movement" toggle in the advanced multiplayer options do?

Toggling the Mothership Movement on will allow Species 8472 players to move their mothership during the game. Setting this toggle to "Mothership Locked" will prevent the Mothership from moving during the course of the game.

5. What does the Normal Physics/Slower Physics button do?

With Slower Physics on, the larger ships of the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, and Cardassians have a slower turning rate and slower acceleration, in order to simulate the large mass of the ships as depicted in Trek shows and movies. Please note that this will not affect the Borg or Species 8472.

6. What does the "Map Height" slider do?

The map height slider will set the depth of the map. Setting the slider to shallow will reduce the maximum height and depth movement of the ships, while a deep setting will create a map that allows a lot of movement on the vertical axis.

7. What does the "Ship Build Time" slider do?

The Ship Build Time slider will affect the amount of time that it takes for a ship to be built. Moving the slider to the right will globally increase the time (i.e. it will take longer to build a ship), while moving the slider to the left will decrease the amount of time (i.e. it will take a very short time to build a ship).

8. Will I be able to use my old saved games from version 1.0 in version 1.1?

No. Saved games from Version 1.0 will be incompatible with Version 1.1.

9. I am receiving graphical corruption on the Matrox G550 card.

If you are having graphical corruption, then please use the beta .1320 drivers that are available from Matrox's website. We have noticed that the .1220 drivers will cause corruption within the game.

10. How do I change my "Download Maps" option?

To change your "Download Maps" option, start a multiplayer game and click on the "Download Maps" button that is located in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Clicking on this button will toggle between the options of "Download Maps: Always," "Download Maps: Never," and "Download Maps: Ask." Once you have chosen your selection, click on the Previous Menu button or Main Menu button to save your choice.

11. I have "Download Maps: Ask" as my option, but I do not want to download a map. How do I choose not to download the map?

If you do not want to download the map, simply exit the multiplayer game by clicking on the "Previous Menu" button.

12. I have a Radeon 8500 video card and I am experiencing issues with the game.

If you are having problems with the game and a Radeon 8500, we recommend that you use either the .3286 drivers, which are for Windows 2000, or the .7189 drivers, which are for Windows 9x/ME. These are beta drivers and they are available from ATI's website.
