Re: Sound card not working

Postby RevRaptor » February 22nd, 2011, 11:53 pm

well I'm pretty sure going back to xp is the only way to get that card working, not too sure though. I tend to ignore sound cards. I always get a motherboard with good on-board sound. One less thing to buy, one less thing to go wrong.
There is no such thing as a stupid question, but there are a lot of inquisitive idiots.

You need KX drivers (version: 3550 beta). You will be able to install and use it, but you might get deformed sound depending on chipset. Work 100% correct on some chipsets, but gives less or more deformed sound on others. Worth a try if you really want Win7.

Some tested combinations:

Intel Chipset + Win 7 x32 = ASUS P45 - working
Intel Chipset + Win 7 x32 = Gigabyte P31 - deformed sound
Intel Chipset + Win 7 x32 = Foxconnu X38 - deformed sound
Intel Chipset + Win 7 x64 = tested on 3 computers, deformed sound
AMD Chipset + Win 7 x32 = tested on two computers, working
AMD Chipset + Win 7 x64 = Gigabyte 790FX - working
AMD Chipset + Win 7 x64 = Gigabyte 770 - deformed sound
Nvidia Chipset + Win 7 x64 = ASUS SLi 980a - working

Or get Creative Audigy SE, it's not too much expensive, way better than Live 5.1 (based on personal experience, I have both cards), and works 100% correct on Win7. I use it with Win7 x64 since my professional sound card works only on XP (drivers cause BSOD).

Vista is one of the worst systems ever made, takes away lots of hardware resources for nothing. Better try your luck with Win7 again or keep WinXP. As far as I'm concerned I'd still be using WinXP if it could support things like DirectX 11 and more than 3GB of RAM.
