Re: Settlers IV Modding questions
Hi Gobi! Nice to see even more new members joining us! I was surprised myself to see how active this community was(because... Well, the Settlers IV community hasn't stood the test of time very well)!
I have also been pretty interested in looking for mods or modding the game myself for a very long time... More specifically, since my father appearently discovered a"race maker"for Settlers IV, which allowed to create and/or edit existing races in the game... Though he never found it again, nor do I even know if it was true(his tone was serious but he... well, isn't) or he misread it, I was fired up!
Aaaaaaanyway, back to work.
Django, could you get your mother's friend to take a look at the game? If so, could you please tell us if he found something interesting or had any ideas? That would be awesome.
Also, I stumbled across some random forum post which appearently suggests two programs to open the infamous gfx files...
The guy recommended"flasm"and"trillix". Never heard from them before, but I'll try giving a shot. Does any of you have any previous experiences with any of these programs? Maybe you tested it before reaing this post? Could you find something?
In the mean time, while trying these programs, I'll see if I can find anything interesting within the game's files in different versions. As I stated before on some topic, I own different versions of the game(Ger vanilla, Ger Gold Edition +, Ger Community pack, Ger Platinum Edition, Eng Gold Edition, Digital GOG Edition, and just recently downloaded the demo) and have found that they offer different files... The one gives you the"Misc_Data1.cfg"while the other hands over the"Misc_Data2-cfg", the third one giving only access to our little friend"Video.cfg"... And the GOG version even gives you access(and allows you to modify) the briefing audio files! My goal is to take advantage of this and try to create the most edit-friendly version. If I succeed(or we, if any of you have any ideas), I could try uploading the files.
(...and, okay... This is like 50% longer than my first message, but I think that it turned out to be, at least, understandable... And now it's 1:52 AM.)
