[WIP] My planned contributions to Mods Reloaded: Videos
by Strange Angel » March 14th, 2009, 7:13 pm
Mostly Oblivion and maybe perhaps Fallout 3 based videos, demonstrating the functionality of some mods to be found on this site. I used to do video editing years ago, but it's been a while, so I'm a little rusty. However as I posted in the MAO thread I did make recently a short video demonstrating on a very small scale MAO's functionality,
If you pay attention you will notice the guards are using vanilla animations, and power attacks. While my character is utilizing the Two Handed DMC Stylish Fighting Style. You will also notice at the end there when I do a power attack and chop that one guards head off I'm not using a vanilla Oblivion power attack, but instead a DMC Two Handed power attack. This removes all suspicion that I'm running DMC Stylish specialanims, because in the specialanims version you are unable to utilize DMC's power attacks. Ergo, all my animations must be in the _male folder.
Now that was just a test, I made it with Fraps, and a program called VirtualDub. Unfortunately after fiddling with it I have found VirtualDub to be inadequate for what I want to do in the long run. It just doesn't have enough features, and it's compression capabilities are poor. I no longer have a copy of Adobe Premiere the program I used to run when I did video editing. Then again even if I had my old copy I'm not even sure if it would run in XP, as i was using Windows ME at the time. Yeah I haven't done any real video editing in like 6 years, since I was 20, I'm currently 26. I tried to see if a friend had a copy of Premiere, but she didn't. So I decided to try out a few other freeware programs since I don't have the money to spend on a decked out video editing suite like Premiere, which costs like $800 and that's the bare bones version alone.
I tried Windows Movie Maker, as I've seen it mentioned a lot, and all I have to say is it would be workable if it didn't crash every 5 minutes. I tried a few others as well with no luck. But I'm still searching for some video editing software that can get the job done that is either free, or doesn't cost loads of money.
As for the project its self. Well, I'm going to start by demonstrating MAO's functionality due to the fact some people don't really understand what it does. One person in the comments thread at the Nexus even complained about there being no screenshots once. Well since MAO is focused in animation it's not exactly a mod you can easily demonstrate with a picture. Mind you I did try to explain it's functionality with a picture I uploaded, but it may not be sufficient for some people.
I'm going to break up the MAO videos likely into a few different videos. For example,
One Handed Combat/Dual Weapon or Offhanded Combat Animations
Two Handed Combat Animations
Spell Animations
Hand to Hand Animations
Etc...
I may also Fraps a live tutorial, demonstrating how one can patch an existing mod with MAO. Then again that might be easier to do via pictures. Perhaps a slide show? We'll see. It'll all take sometime.
But in the future I want to not only demonstrate MAO's functionality via videos, but perhaps even other mods featured on this sight if an author requests a video. Grant you for armor and such a simple sceenshot suffices, but it gives me an excuse to record my character going on a killing spree with say some of Dez's Armor equipped.
I also plan to make videos for myself, and just generally mess around. Perhaps even a compilation of some Oblivion and Fallout 3 mods authored by users of this site to kind of plug the site it's self? We'll see where things go and what time constraints allow me to do. However, right now I need to focus on getting some at the very least average video editing software in order to make videos.

Thanks for all the hard work Strange Angel, I've added a Video category to the main site now as well as a few others.
Please remember to comment, it helps to encourage modders with their work.

Much appreciated, and I still have a tutorial to do for MAO, and Keylek has sanctioned me to do some video work for his awesome mod that he's working on, once he irons out the crucial details. If anyone else wants me to make a video for a mod they have here just post a request, or PM me and I'll see what I can do.
