I absolutely understand your struggle on this one. There were some days some months ago on which I thought about starting WoW again. But usually, in the same moment I had to think of one major disadvantage: You pay for, then you have to play it as much as possible. But games become quite boring to me if I have that obligation.

You know what helps me getting of something addictive (like chocolate e.g., )? I just compile all the negative points. In WoW, that would be the annoying leveling beyond lvl 60, the quests which's structure is always the same (ok, there are some exceptions... only a few... Ok, only one!), the annoying people (especially the brats which think that they know everything much better), the obligation mentioned above and finally the fact the mages are currently useless in PvP (well, except you are very lucky and know exactly how to play your class... Warlocks just need to headbash the keyboard and hunters will corpse camp you no matter what...).

Oh, those disadvantages make me reconsider, too. Should I stop? Nah, it's quite funny atm.

I like the idea of the Cruiser you can build in your current MMO(RPG?). Makes me think of X3 in which you could either become a space merchant, pirate or bounty hunter(or evil faction which takes over sector after sector).

Not for nothing, but that's kinda always been the case with Mages. Even in PvE Mages would usually get taken along on raids because they are basically vending machines, patch after patch their DPS just kept dwindling down to the point that it just became sad. Warlocks in most cases wound up replacing them. This was blaring apparent in most raids I attended with my Pally where you would have several locks and maybe two Mages, sometimes just one. They are hardly the "glass cannons" they are supposed to be. But I do tend to refrain from Mage QQing, since everyone who plays another class writes you off as whiner even if you present hard evidence the class is not functioning correctly and it seems like Blizz in general just doesn't care, and never really has.

Still my fondness of the class lies in the fact that if you know how to play the class really well they can actually be very effective in PvP even with nerf after nerf. But they are an insanely hard class to really master mostly because unlike most classes you have to be very improvisational, and know every other class inside and out. This is not to say there are certain patterns one must follow, but you can't get stuck in anyone pattern or you'll die, and die a lot. (Sorry but Icelance spamming while effective only gets you so far against classes that have loads of ways to break roots.) You need to stay on the move, and mix things up when in a tight spot. It's a very frantic class to play, and there is no room for error. You have to know what spell to cast and when on the spot. Even if you are great with the class there are some occasions where there is no chance of winning at all. This comes up a lot in 2v2 Arena matches whenever you have a Warlock, that Warlock will focus on you! And in a one vs one situation against a lock the only way to beat a Warlock is if you have a lot of room to move around, Arena's keep you stuck in too much of confined space to have a chance unless you're really lucky. Which is why Mages should stick to 3v3, or 5v5's in terms of Arena. I'm guessing Frost is still a perquisite for PvP since any other spec is pretty much inviting death. Then again if the Mage class has been nerfed even further in the last year while other classes were getting buffed, even if you are a good Mage you're kind of screwed at this point. :Ton: Seriously it was difficult enough before WotLK to be an actual challenge as opposed to a free-kill. But more nerfs to the class in contrast to other classes getting more buffs would even for really good mages be a bit overkill.

But yes, I've been very tempted to write an article on WoW addiction. I've seen it happen to two people. One case was mild the other lead to a friend of mine losing his fiancee. Not so mild. In both cases the denial is crazy... Only in the latter case did he realize he had a problem when he lost his fiancee. In the former case she doesn't believe she has a problem. Grant you she did manage to quite for a few months which is amazing considering WoW is all she would do with her free time since it was launched in 04'.
