New Mortal Kombat banned down under
by loder » February 27th, 2011, 4:00 pm

The upcoming Mortal Kombat revival will like its predecessors, be quite brutal. We're talking intense new Fatalities that are going to make bare handed decapitation look like child’s play, all of course rendered in immaculate HD detail.
The iconic fighting series has always been a magnet for controversy, and this time it seems no different, with the game already receiving a “ban†in Australia. While not technically a ban, the game has been “refused classification†in Australia due to the country’s entertainment ratings board not having a mature or 18+ classification system in place. The highest rating in the current Australian system is a MA15+ rating.
The banning of violent games Down Under is nothing new, but the amusing thing here is that, according to Kotaku, with the Australian dollar at an all-time high, gamers who “illegally†import the title will actually be paying 20-30% less than they would in a retail store. Viva la backdoor imports! The new Mortal Kombat is releasing on Xbox 360 and PS3 on the 19th of April.

Australia actually ban all things unapropriate for children.

There is a new website out dedicated to revising the Austrlia video game classification system. I thought it would worth a mention.

The R18+ rating has already passed in nearly all states, and about time.

I couldn't buy Risen here when it was released and I still don't think it's available for sale although I haven't looked lately. I got it off eBay in the end. I don't have an account but my brother does and he got it for me back then. It's good news for Risen 2 though....I hope.
