Sims 3 Mods
by Saturn Celeste » September 19th, 2010, 12:25 pm
I would like to take some time and discuss modding the Sims3. Now, this is not making your own mods for the game, I am not a modder and don't know how to do that, if you ARE a modder and would like to share with us, please do, I find it interesting but I never did learn how to do that. I do use a lot of mods with the Sims3 though.
We need to start from the beginning. The Sims3 only allows 1 core mod. I used to use the Awesome mod found here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/i ... 185.0.html I no longer use that mod because I play gay sims and my male sims have babies and the awesome mod does not allow that so I have moved on. I also have teenage sims have babies so I use the "Extended game core" with Inteen3 found here: http://www.sexysims2.com/showthread.php?t=172921 It is an adult site and you must be a member to download or even view the information. It is based on this mod, the Extended game core which allows switching otherwise hard coded behavior (EGC) found here: http://nene.modthesims.info/download.php?t=381046 This is not an adult site but I think you still need to be a member to download although you can read about it without being a member.
If you want teen pregnancy or same sex pregnancy, you'll need either one of these mods, not both of them. I use the Inteen3 one as mentioned. Download this first and it has the framework so follow the directions. I modify my framework a little bit and combine them, not sure if that's a good thing yet, I'm still experimenting. If you want to use mods but not the EGC, I would suggest downloading Pescado's framework found here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/i ... 184.0.html
The Sims3 uses a resource.cfg file that must be in place. Either the EGC or Awesome mod include this .cfg file. It's important to use either one because they are set up to allow sub folders in the packages folder to keep your custom content organized. I will go into structure later. Ok, so let's move one for now, assuming you have the framework in place.
The next thing I grab is the 3Booter found here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/i ... 585.0.html This prevents early game crashing. I never use launchers and this bypasses the launcher.
Next I use the Data Execution Prevention and you can find those directions here: http://nene.modthesims.info/wiki.php?ti ... Prevention
And last but not least to get me started I use the CFF Suite (the link is named: Download the Explorer Suite) found here: http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php
This is the information about the Explorer Suite, you can use this on any game, I have all my games set with this.

How to Fix Error Codes 12 & 13 A Possible Solution
http://ladymoiraine.com/forum/index.php?topic=610.0
I've started playing the sims again to get ready to buy those stuff pack/expansions for the ones that are out. I like a big hood always have but I noticed after the latest patch, I have had a really bad time of losing my entire hood. Thank god it's been a brand new one but nevertheless, it's pissed me off. I had been using twallen's story progression but have since removed that temporarily. I would like to talk about AD85 and his mod the: Extended game core which allows switching otherwise hard coded behavior. Because of using this mod, I have found a solid fix for the Error Codes 12 & 13. All credit goes to AD85 for the mod and gotthilf for writing the procedure to fix the error codes. I'm posting this out of context from his readme because I feel it's so very important.
For this forum that really wants to have same sex and same sex pregnancies, I have been very happy using his mod and highly recommend supporting this modder for the devotion he's had on keeping his mod updated. Sadly, he's one of the reasons DarkPool (lostaccount) stopped making the same sex pregnancy, they had a falling out with sharp words, but personal feelings aside, I don't care who the modder is as long as they make a mod for same sex pregnancies and AD85 has won out, he is the victor so to say. I don't have 64 bit but this fix will help those of us who don't also.
Now, for the small tutorial, it is copied and pasted from his PDF readme:
Lots of code 12 or code 13 errors, when trying to save, or recurring crashes after a few minutes
of playing.
- By default the game is not able to address more than 2 GB of memory. When you use lots of custom
content and/or have a large game with lots of Sims involved, you may run into memory overflows.
With a program named “CFF Explorer” users of a 64it Windows can change their main executable
of Sims 3 to handle more memory, which is reported to solve these errors (German only).
- Procedure by gotthilf:
1. Locate your <main executable>:
a. Basegame: <installation root folder>\Game\Bin\TS3.exe
B. World Adventures: <installation root folder>\Game\Bin\TS3EP01.exe
c. High-End Loft: <installation root folder>\Game\Bin\TS3SP01.exe
2. Download CFF Explorer and install it.
3. Make a backup of <main executable> (Important!)
4. Open <main executable> with CFF explorer
5. In the tree on the left hand side click on “file header”
6. On the right click on “characteristics”
7. Tick the box of the “App can handle >2gb adress space” option
8. Save the executable (due to writing privileges you might need to save the file to another folder
first and then replace the original <main executable> with it)
- Keep in mind, that you might have to replace your changed executable with the backup, before
patching the game, and, that you might have to repeat the procedure afterwards.
*************
The directions were easy to follow and I have not had the crash or lost the game since doing this. I highly recommend this procedure to get all the ram out of your memory as possible for gaming. If anyone has trouble with this and would like to see my own screenshots, let me know and I'll post some, I didn't need any help aside from following the directions, don't let that CFF program scare you, it's only 2 steps to use on it and it really makes all the difference in the world and your game! :D
*************
I've attached the readme, the above procedure is on page 9.

Re: Sims3 Mods
by Saturn Celeste » September 20th, 2010, 7:44 pm
Ok, we've talked about setting up the game, now for the most important mods I use. As I have mentioned, I play gay sims and my gay male teenagers get pregnant so I use a core mod. It is the ONLY core mod you can have in the game, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE CORE MOD! Evah! So I use BaXiM's "Extended game core" with Inteen3 found here: http://www.sexysims2.com/showthread.php?t=172921
He has not put the newest updated version for the newest patch but you can find the beta here: http://www.sexysims2.com/showthread.php ... 1409354237
If you don't care about teen pregnancy, you can also use the AD85 core mod discussed in the previous post.
OK, we have the sex stuff taken care about, now for gameplay. I am currently not playing with ANY story progression turned on, I've been testing mods and don't want it to interfere but if you do want to use the story progression, there is EA's, the Awesome mod or twallan's story progression. Remember the awesome mod is a CORE mod so if you are using any other core mod like the one from BaXiM or AD85, you can NOT use the awesome mod. However if you don't care about the sex stuff, I do recommend the awesome mod. Pescado has the best running mods and his story progression is awesome, you'll find the awesome mod here, the story progression is included: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/i ... 185.0.html Don't forget to use the configuration tool that goes along with this mod: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/ts3/a ... config.php
In the beginning of The Sims3, there was J.M. Pescado and his awesome mod, he was one of the only modders to tackle the story progression bugs implemented by EA until twallan came on the scene. His NRAAS Industries mods are NOT core mods and can be used with a core mod like BaXiM so I am a twallan fan. The only problem is his story progression has a lot of his personality in it and gets kind of weird after awhile BUT it's very good and I think he might even have fine tuned it more to reflect your testes instead of his. When I go back to story progression, I will go back to twallan's anyway. THE most important twallan mod is the Master Controller: http://ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?topic=4219.0 This mod makes the game very tunable, you can set individual sims, households or the world. I play ONLY gay males and delete almost all female sims from my game so using the Master Controller, I can set up the gender preferences for the world easily. I can also give everyone money, good grades, adjust friendships, etc...
Next I use the Overwatch: http://ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?topic=4220.0 This mod also gives you setting changes, I use to to active my testingcheats enabled for default, but you can do many other things with this also.
I use his Career mod because I want unemployed sims, whether you have the story progression on or off, the game still assigns your sims jobs and I hate that because my sims are all very, very rich, there are a few of these you need to grab, the actual Career Mod is here: http://ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?topic=3822.0 Then I use the NRaas_CareerDataUnemployed_V40.zip and the NRaas_CareerDataSelfEmployed_V40.zip which goes nicely with the new jobs from Ambitions.
I use the Debug Enabler: http://ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?topic=3857.0
And the relationship Panel: http://ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?topic=4206.0
*******************
twallan's woohooer: http://ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?topic=4338.0 You can use this for gay young adult and adult sims but not teenager, I don't need it because of the core mod I use but if you don't want to run a core mod, this is a good alternative.
twallan's story progression: http://ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?topic=4500.0 You can find his story progression and all the info on that linkie.
I hope this information will get you on your way to playing a modded Sims3 game!

Thanks loder! It's my pleasure to share my sims knowledge.
I'd like to talk about the Neighborhood Workshop now. The program is broken more or less but it still works for basic needs. In the Sims2 we had astrology as a major factor in relationships and I really missed that with the Sims3. All sims in the sims3 are Aries. Well, if you really want to change a few things that NRaas Industries or other mods don't change, there is the Neighborhood Workshop. World Adventures broke it but it still works if you know how to open the neighborhood.
After installing the program, just click on the icon and go to File\Open for Edit\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves\Sunset Valley.sims3 (whatever hood you're editing)\Sunset Valley_0x0859db3c.nhd (every hood will have a different number you want the .nhd file), and select the .nhd file in the save folder. At the bottom of the window, make sure it says ALL Files instead of 'All Sims3 Scripted Packages' if that is in place your window will be empty so you need to change it to All Files.
You can get the program from modthesims: Neighborhood Workshop (Formerly save game editor - now with simple painting replacement) http://nene.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=350770
This program is also good to use if you don't want to use the bigger mods like NRaas or core mods or really any mods, but you want to just change a few things in the game, this allows you to play an unmodded game but tweaked out to your liking.
