How to activate same gender romance

it's possible to romance Kaidan as a male and Ashley as a female.

to do, first, enable the console. open the BioImput.ini file with notepad( in my documents/mass effect/config ) find the [Engine.Console] line and add just below the line consolekey=[ key ]. usually "tilde" ( consolekey=tilde) but it doesn't work on every keyboard.

then start a new game. create an opposite gender in regard of what you want( if you want a woman create a man).
be carefull: use the standard appearance, don't custom the face. or you male shepard will have a female face, or the contrary.
when you have access to your character, open the console and type setgender=0 to become a man, or setgender=1 to become a woman, then save, and load your save.

there will be some bugs. the character will be call sir if a woman, and so on. sometimes the voice will be the opposite gender voice.

Thank you for posting this here, Rebel! I'm always glad to help enhance a game to an entirely different way of playing than originally intended by the devs. From what I've seen and heard, if you import your character that was gender changed, it should continue the relationship into ME2. For example, when my male Shepard meets up with Kaidan, they will speak of their relationship. I haven't gotten that far in ME2 yet to verify but I CAN verify that when ME2 starts out, IF you were in a relationship in ME1, that partner will start ME2 out with you, and that has happened both times with my gay male and Kaidan. So far so good! I just put up some screens from that sequence on my Mass Effect Screenshot thread here for confirmation.
