How to travel to a parallel dimension

One theory of getting to a parallel universe is from Michio Kaku http://mkaku.org/home/?s=parallel+universe&x=0&y=0
His idea is to use the asteroid belt orbiting our sun to build an atom smasher stretching half a billion miles long, the resulting explosion and power output is a quadrillion times more than is possible to achieve on earth.
This energy would be enough to make a small wormhole through to another dimension. This wormhole would need to be stabilised with negative energy which would not only stabilise the hole but make it a bit bigger.
You would now theoretically be able to cross to another dimension, but first you would have to be able to study the conditions on the other side, would they support Human life?
Would you be able to survive the crossing?
