How do mods enhance your game
by Dark Lilith » January 24th, 2009, 1:21 am
I Played oblivion since it first came out,it took me a year to add my first mod. Where I had enjoyed the game without, once I added my first mod it was as if a whole new game appeared. How has the addition of mods added to your game?

I play TES games since 2004 when a friend of mine gived me his Morrowind CD. I was a FPS addict back then and not a big fan of RPGs. That changed when the day I installed Morrowind. That game completly changed my perspective when it comes to video games.
At first I was confused, even bored, but as hours passed I becamed more and more involved into MW story and before I realized, I was playing 8 hours/day. I never used mods for Morrowind, not even one. 2 years later I was still playing MW and I didn't knew anything about Oblivion and any other Beth game.
The same friend told me about it and 2 months later in April 2006 my uncle bought me the game. I was so excited about it so I rushed back home and installed the game only to realize it doens't work becouse my PC was to old. So with my heart broken I went to a PC shop next day with my mother and updated my PC. Again I rushed back home, installed the game and all I remember is that I created a dark elf and named him Shadow.
Then one day that friend of mine camed to visit me and as always we ended up talking about video games. I told him how much I like Oblivion and all that and he said( I remember his works exactly): "Have you tryed to install mods?" I was like "what? what's a mod?" After he explained me all he knew about mods I searched for mods sites and found PES. I downloaded my first mod " Cheydinhal pet shop" and bought all the animals I found there. As days passed I downloaded lot's of other mods and soon I reached the limit witch is 255. Then after a couple of months, mayby a year I found Tesnexus and that's how I found this site to.
I have more than 1000 mods on my PC now and a total of 150 GB of TES related stuff.
I had quite an adventure

My first memory of modding was on a program called AMOS on the Commodore Amiga 600.
I bought my first game for the PC in 1994, it was Command and Conquer by Westwood Studios. The game had evolved from the popular Dune series and I taught myself how to use an unofficial map editor to create single player missions.
Later on I started to create maps for Duke Nukem 3D. This was the first game that gave me a taste for modding. I spent hours editing the files and using the BUILD editor to carve some mega maps for cooperative play.
Daggerfall Elder Scrolls 2 was another pivotal game. I really enjoyed playing and modding this game. Compared to todays standards the game was in its infancy. While it was much larger than Morrowind or Oblivion it was plagued with bugs.
In my late teens I modded C&C Tiberium Sun and Morrowind. The games that have had the most influence have included the elder scrolls series and the popular Baldurs Gate titles by Bioware.
My most recent maps and mods have been for Armada 2, Oblivion and Operation Flashpoint. My favourite part of modding is taking plain vanilla AI and building upon it to challenge more skilled players. Some examples of this include the Epic Armada Mod and the Neverslayer mods.
These days the modding has really slowed down. Nothing has been released recently that has even raised an eyebrow. I might consider Armed Assault at some point, but am waiting to see what Operation Flashpoint 2 looks like.
Fallout 3 hasn't really appealed to me, I'm thinking about going back to some of the oldies such as Baldurs Gate, Heroes 3 and AOW 2, at least until Dragon Age comes out.

Please remember to comment, it helps to encourage modders with their work.
