Favorite Retro Game (prior to 2000)
by Darwin Machiavelli » February 13th, 2009, 3:15 am
(carried topic on over from Nexus)
My favorite retro game would be Sin because of all the features it had for an old game, including great physics for the time, great storyline, long and varied gameplay where you could often choose where to go, and the selection of weapons was great as well (is it just me or did older games tend to have more interesting weapons?).
A close second would probably be... Actually two seconds, which are the first Tomb Raider, and Half life 1. Both were great action games as well with groundbreaking achievements, Tomb Raider being the first major (that I know of) three-dimensional action/adventure game, and with Half life 1 being a great game in itself, with things such as realistic character interaction and highly interesting aliens and otherworldly locales.
What is (are) your favorite game(s) prior to 2000?

Typical video game translations:
¡Te quiero ver... con una bala en tu cabeza!
Je veux te voir... avec une balle dans ta tête!
I want to see you… with a bullet in your head!
(~I was bored and made this~)

Eye of the Beholder (release 1990) !!
I can still remember where all the secrets are and how to complete the 11 'special' quests.

I liked this Topic alot on the Nexus, Kudos for you Jaosals^^
Prior to 2000, I have to think of 3 games which changed my interests completely. I still tend to compare games of today with those old pearls, but for some reason, the elder are so much better in some aspects....
the 1st one is Panzer Dragoon, my 1st 3d game I ever played & had:
I liked it because of it's wonderful atmosphere and beautiful music.
the 2nd one is definitely Resident Evil 2, imo the best part(best gameplay, 2nd best story in the series. Story was better in the 1st part ofc)

I played and finished it probably more than 20 times in a row. Heck, I even unlocked all possible secrets, the only thing I never managed was the Tofu Survivor...
and finally Final Fantasy VII. On the Nexus, I was quite surprised about the amount of ppl who dislike this game.. Another example that tastes are different I guess^^.

The 1st real RPG I ever played brought so many new things I never experienced before in a game. FFVII was at this time the perfect combination of story, gameplay and atmosphere.

You see it too? For me, it's always like this... -- Angela Orosco, Silent Hill 2
Didn't we promise each other? Together.....forever.... -- Mio Amakura/Yae Kurosawa, Project Zero 2
