Ok, I made a tutorial over at gearbox and I'm going to just copy and paste it over there. Some of it may seem funny and not related to here but I worked for hours on this and want to wrap it up and get on with my Rowdy Roland story.
I bought it on Games for Windows, as a download, and I have access to these files easily, so I don't think it would matter.
Either way, I can't get oggextract to function.
Ok, you have downloaded the ogg extractor. What I did was make a folder in my Program Files and named it OggExtract. I sent the .dll, .exe and the readme to that folder then clicked on the .exe file and "Send to Desktop" therefore creating a shortcut. Now, you have that shortcut on your desktop. I useBeeThink MusicHandle 3.2 because it's free. What you need to do is this--click on the pics also for the full size:
1. I make a folder named Ogg and have several folders listed inside because the Bee Think Music Handle limits how many files it will convert at once. I just tried it for this tutorial and it took 31 files. I usually do 30 at a time. Now, you have your shortcut for the oggextractor, you've downloaded BeeThinkMusicHandle and you have a folder you've made on your desktop.
2. You will go to: Program Files\2K Games\Gearbox Software\Borderlands\WillowGame\CookedC\Packages OR if you want sound from the DLC, you'll go to DLC\DLC4\Packages instead of the vanilla game folder - Packages. Copy and paste each or either folder to your desktop. Never, ever work from your Program Files folder, always make a copy to your desktop and work from that!

3. Now you have the 4 tools on your desktop, the shortcut, the folder you made the BeeThinkMusicHandle and either the DLC4 folder OR Packages folder you copied from the WillowGame folder in your Program Files. You DO NOT have the original folder, please don't work from that, you'll break your game. Your desktop should have these 4 items now (circled in red):

4. Now, inside your DLC4 folder to make it easy for this tutorial, (If you are using the Packages folder do the same procdure) you want to search ALL Files and Folder and look for wav. (Please note, I am just going through Audio to make it easy on myself. Doing a wav search for the ENTIRE folder you are working in is recommended because you'll pull up ALL the wav upk files.)

Your wav search will bring up all the workable upk files for your sounds.

5. Cut and Paste your searched files to your DLC4 OR Packages folder you were using from your desktop.

6. Now, I only use the English files. If you speak German, Spanish, Italian or French, feel free to convert these files in your native tongue. For my tutorial we will be deleting ALL the language files except English to make the folder more workable.

7. These are the workable .upk files we have extracted using our search for wav in the DLC4\Packages\Audio folder.

8. Ok, now it's time to use our folder we made, I named mine ogg. Inside I have seveal files named wav1, wav2 etc because the BeeThink program won't handle a lot of files at once, I usually work in lists of 30. This is the inside of my folder:

---------- Post added at 12:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:26 PM ----------
9. For the fun part, we select the first .upk file on the list.

You will CUT

Then PASTE

This ONE file to your new folder, I am using wav1 inside my ogg folder.

We do this for a reason! You will slide that one file up onto your shortcut to OggVorbis! Slide it! Don't cut or paste, just slide it and a dos window pops up and wait, the bigger the .upk the longer it takes to process.

And when it's done, viola! All your oggvorbis files are in your wav1 folder!

I do it this way because I know where my files are at all times. Some of these .upk files hold hundreds and hundreds of sound files. This is why it takes so long to get the sound files. Now, if you have tried this program and you saw the window pop up, chances are you did it correctly, you just don't know where the files went. Another reason I do it my way so avoid messing with the original game files! Repeat this procedure with ALL the .upk files. Each one can produce anywhere from 1 or 2 sound files to hundreds. The narrative .upk's are usually huge with everyone in the mix, so be prepared! Next part, the BeeThink conversion. :blhappy:
Next part, the BeeThink conversion. :blhappy:
Ok! We have our OggVorbis sound files safe in our wav1 folder. And we're ready to convert them to wav or mp3. I'll use mp3 for this tutorial because they are smaller files. I MUST use .wav for my sound themes so when I work with this sound files, I convert them twice, which is why this process takes me so long. I would like to say, if anyone enjoys makind sound packs and would like to help me both here and on my forum, please PM me and we can get together! My forum is mature, not for members under the age of 17 so keep that in mind if you visit. (That's why I'm linking only the sound section, that's a safe section.) :blcensor:
Ok, on to converting our OggVorbis files!
________________
1. Remove the .upk file from your wav1 folder, I just slide mine down to the desktop for a little bit.

2. Cut about half the files from your wav1 folder and put them over in your wav2 folder.

3. Open your BeeThink program and set it to what format you want, I have selected mp3 for this tutorial.

4. Click on Open and go to your desktop folder, mine is ogg\wav1 and hightlight the first file and then the last file so it will select all the files in that folder.

Click Start and it instead of the Pending status, that will turn green and say completed when the file is converted, the bigger the file, the longer this takes

5. You are done! Your converted files will be in the same folder as the oggvorbis files. I put my view on details and sort by type so I can then separate the mp3 or wav from the oggvorbis.

I hope this tutorial helps you all interested in extracting the sound files from the game. I love voice acting and have always wanted to do that myself but I don't so I am happy listening to the voices in the game. I have also extracted files from Fallout 3 which I will be working on more since New Vegas is out. I make sound themes that are easy and free if you really want the full immersion of your game on your desktop. Currently I have my Roland sound theme I'm using. I can also be found in the wincustom site for sound schemes using their sound packager program and softpedia both under Saturn Celeste. I am also known as Lady Moiraine online. And as I have asked, anyone interested in helping me get more packaged sounds out, PM me, please! It's a big job but a fun one! :blhappy:
