Blizzard Getting a Theme Park – Yes a Theme Park

It defies almost all logic, but the reports are in and it’s undeniable now: The Blizzard Entertainment Theme Park is real. There is video, there are pictures, and there is a news story. It’s real, and when all’s said and done, millions of people from around the world might very well make a journey to go visit “World of Joyland” in China.

The park will feature “Zones” that are based around Blizzard’s various franchises. World of Warcraft, Universe of Starcraft and others that roughly translate to Island of Mystery and World of Legend. Included as well is a “Cute Section” called Moles World. You can expect it to be for kids, of course. Want to see more? Want to have your mind blown by seeing the park under construction? What can be said at this point? I like it. I’m sorry but I’ll throw my geek-cred down on the table and declare that I can’t wait to go there. Yes, it might be childish, and yes, it might be corny, but so are the endless variety of Disney Theme Parks (in my opinion). But let us back up a moment. Disney must surely be referenced for examples of how a Theme Park should be built and run. Does this mean we’ll see themed restaurants where men and women dressed in costumes serve food named and based on in-game items? Will we feast on Murloc Fin Soup and drink water from a Table of Refreshment that looks like it was plucked from the screen?

If you’re good at cracking Chinese Code (i.e. the written language), you might be able to glean more from the park’s website, but as it stands, we know there will be several different types of rollercoasters as well as countless shops and themed builds. Already pictured are buildings which look like dead ringers for a Protoss Nexus and a Highborn Elf Tower, respectively. I do believe this calls for a “Hell Yes!”

Now don’t get me wrong here, Blizzard hasn’t said a single thing about an amusement park, but then again, Blizzard and China have had some interesting relations, both in the past and in the here and now. World of Warcraft is huge in China, even though they’re an expansion behind the rest of the world most of the time. However, for now, it’s just a game of “Wait and See.” The park was supposed to be completed in March, but had its opening day pushed back due to construction delays. All I can say now is a saying popular in many of Blizzard’s own Battle.net games:
